About the Artist

My painting roots are heavily influenced by the Bay Area Figurative Movement and my mentors are Richard Diebenkorn, Manual Neri, Joan Brown, and Nathan Oliviera with whom I had the pleasure of studying with at The San Francisco Art Institute. At Mills College my tutors were Antony Prieto, Ralph Du Casse, and Rafael Canogar. My work has taken a less abstract path utilizing traditional old masters techniques culminating -- with most pieces -- in detailed interpretations of subject matter coupled with an exploration of  luminosity and tone.

I was born in Seattle,  live and work in Mount Vernon which is an hour north where I maintain a ceramics workshop and a painting studio. I lived in Stratford-upon-Avon for over twenty years and returned to Washington in 2004. My late husband, Mike, and I owned Dianthus Ceramics which specialized in limited editions of commemorative creamware designed for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Birthplace Trust, The Bodleian Library, and other corporate entities.  We made and produced and exhibited our own stoneware and porcelain ceramics at premises in Shakespeare Centre Craft Yard: Dianthus Ceramics Gallery and Workshop.

Representation with Karla Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Yard, Camano Island; The Lido Collective, Mount Vernon, Washington.
